HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital is Midway Through Phase 3 of Construction

SHELBYVILLE, IL – HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital is midway through phase three of a five-phase, $2.3 million project. This week and in the coming days, as patients and visitors enter the main registration area, they will immediately see work being done to the main waiting area.

The waiting room is receiving new décor which will be warmer and more modern, including new paint, ceiling tiles and lighting.

Starting on Monday, Nov. 26, the registration window for the emergency department (ED) will be under construction. The window will be lowered so patients in wheelchairs can be at eye-level  with the receptionist.
During construction, from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., emergency patients should go to the main registration desk. The receptionist will notify the ED and send a staff member to escort the patient for registration.

From 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. the main registration desk will not be open. During this time, the front door will be monitored via video camera. When a patient comes in the main registration area, a staff member will escort the patient to the ED for registration. There will be instructions posted at this time with information and a phone number if someone doesn’t come to their aid promptly.

The ED’s registration area and nurses’station will also soon be under construction. This area will receive new cabinetry, lights, flooring, ceiling and countertops.

The first part of phase two entailed a new triage room and private waiting area for family members whose loved ones are undergoing treatment in the ED. This waiting room will allow doctors to have a private place for counsel and to answer questions.

Also, as part of this phase, a new safe room was created for behavioral health patients. This space is private and much safer for patients and health care providers.

As the construction project continues, please be aware of containment areas and equipment. Guests, patients and visitors may also ask for earplugs at the registration desk in the main area.

“As each new phase of construction is completed and we move forward with this project, we want to remind our patients and visitors that we are working hard to build our community a better hospital. Our goal is to offer better services in a more welcoming and comfortable environment,” says Aaron Puchbauer, HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital CEO and President.
