HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital Receives Three Tau Awards

SHELBYVILLE, IL – Recently, Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) held its annual Tau Awards to recognize local its hospitals in the categories of mission, quality, engagement and financial outcomes.  Awards are presented to the top hospital and the most improved in each of the categories.

Each of the 15 HSHS ministries had the opportunity to be recognized.  This was HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital’s first opportunity to be eligible in these award categories, and the hospital won three awards:

  • Most improved physician engagement: Based on the annual physician engagement survey, which measures the engagement levels of the hospital’s physicians and mid-level providers.  The higher the engagement levels the stronger and healthier the relationships are between hospitals and providers.  For Good Shepherd to be a great place to work and better serve the community, it is important that the hospital continues to build these relationships.
  • Most improved EBIDA: EBIDA, which stands for Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization, measures overall financial performance relative to other hospitals.  On a percentage basis, Good Shepherd improved its financial results more than any other hospital across HSHS.
  • Most improved market share: Measures the number of patients that choose Good Shepherd for their care versus another local healthcare provider.  Our market share increased 2.0 percent last year, which means patients selected the hospital at a 2.0 percent higher rate than the year before.  Good Shepherd grew at a rate higher than any of the other 15 local ministries across HSHS!

“It was a great honor to receive these awards on the behalf of HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital,” President and CEO Aaron Puchbauer said. “Through our diligence on improving our patients’ experience and adding new services, we have grown our market share. Our community is noticing our hard work and supporting the hospital because of all the wonderful work we do. Thanks to the contributions of our colleagues, medical staff, and board members over the last year, we truly are building a better hospital for our community.  I look forward to continuing to accomplish great things in the year ahead.”
