HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital Awards MVP Shining Star Award for Care

HSHS Good Shepherd is committed to following its mission of quality health care and service to the community with a particular commitment to their core values of respect, care, competence and joy. To ensure that this becomes a standard practice in service, the hospital will recognize a colleague each quarter as a MVP. This colleague’s attitude and behavior will reflect the hospital’s Franciscan mission, values and philosophy.

Each quarter’s nomination will be based on one of the HSHS four core values. This quarter the nominating committee accepted nominations centered on our second core value, CARE. Defined by the sisters, care embodies the concern, compassion, and sensitivity with which the hospital’s colleagues care for patients as individuals on a one-to-one basis. It depicts the hospital’s way of dealing with patients, clients, colleagues and co-workers. Many times, it is thought of as a bedside behavior, but it also belongs in business offices, cafeterias and boardrooms.

The nominations are made by fellow colleagues and then selected by the Shining Star committee which is comprised of colleagues. This quarter’s MVP is Jeanie Huff, CNA and housekeeping services.

“Jeannie constantly goes above and beyond to make sure all of our patients get the best possible care,” said one of her colleagues. “Whether it is doing a little bit extra work while cleaning their rooms to make sure they are comfortable, or acting as an aide when our staff is short to make sure everyone is safe and well cared for. I know for a fact that the entire med-surg staff is thankful for all that she does for the patients, and I know the patients relish her extra care as well. I hear Jennie being complimented frequently on how caring and hardworking she is.”

Huff’s respectful attitude is making a difference in colleagues and patients’ lives each day. Her exceptional service mirrors the Franciscan sisters’ compassion for people they served in their hospitals, and their care emulated the care Jesus shared with others during His earthly life.

As the sisters ‘pass the torch’ to the hospital’s colleagues to continue their ministry, they are proud of Huff for her heart, genuine spirit and sincere interest in the people she serves at HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital.
