Good Shepherd Hospital Holds Drug Misuse Luncheon

SHELBYVILLE, IL – On Friday, September 28, HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital sponsored a luncheon with the purpose of drawing together the best experts from five counties in local health care, health departments, law enforcement, social organizations and other agencies to brainstorm the best practices and resources for curtailing the current stream of drug misuse.

The group of over 20 professionals assembled and shared information on current trends, and what next steps could be taken to help the reduce drug misuse. They also identified common issues which are impediments for addicts who are seeking recovery.

This session at GSS is a result of New Vision’s Service Coordinator Caroline Reynolds’ involvement in coalitions in other counties which are addressing these issues. She is actively involved in five other coalitions across the state. This networking is imperative to form the best practices, treatment access, prevention and education to affected rural areas.

Further meeting and development of this coalition are on hold until a meeting is held with the state which is scheduled for later in October.

The New Vision service is a medical detox service for people suffering from withdrawal from alcohol, pain pills and heroin. For more about our New Vision service, please call (217) 774-6436 or visit hshsgoodshepherd.org/Medi…/Substance-Abuse-Treatment.
