HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital Installs New CT Scanner

With the installation of the new CT scanner, HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital has completed phase one of a $2.1 million construction project.

The new CT is a 64-slice scanner while the last CT scanner only had a 16-slice capability. The new technology will provide a much clearer, sharper image of the patient. This is safer for the patient because it lessens their exposure to radiation, which is especially important to patients who may receive multiple scans during their lifetime.

Julie Aultis the HSHS Good Shepherd technologist who trained with the applications specialist and will help train others. She will also be working with the radiologists on protocols for the system.

“We are very excited to have this new piece of equipment so that we can deliver the best service possible to our patients,” Ault said. “Four of our CT technologists are board certified and have over 40-years of combined experience. Each technologist completed 32-hours of training on the new system.”

“It is rare for rural hospitals to have this degree of definition from a CT scanner,” said HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital President and CEO Aaron Puchbauer. “We are very happy to be able to have this kind of imaging definition ready for our patients’ needs 24/7. This is an important part of our construction phase to complete.”
